Supreme Justice; Monument to Marshall Counters a Statue of Limitations

Maryland officials were doing more than honoring one of the state's most illustrious sons yesterday in unveiling a striking memorial in Annapolis to Thurgood Marshall, the late Supreme Court justice. They were counterbalancing a vexing view of history long on display on the State House grounds.

A sculptural rendering of a youthful-looking Marshall, carrying a briefcase and striding ahead purposefully, is the centerpiece of the new bronze and limestone memorial erected on the northwest side of Maryland's Colonial-era capitol building.
