DUKAKIS: STATE WELFARE ERROR RATE DIPS TO 2.1%

The state Welfare Department has reduced its error rate from 11.6 percent to 2.1 percent over the past four years, an improvement expected to save Massachusetts millions of dollars annually in federal penalties, Gov. Dukakis said yesterday.

Dukakis said at a press conference the reduced error rate demonstrates the state's commitment to ensuring that its resources are "devoted in constructive ways."
