If we were to ignore advances in forensic science, as Robert
Haworth suggests {letters, June 17} regarding the exhumation of
explorer Meriwether Lewis's remains, the people we see being freed
from prison thanks to DNA testing still would be languishing.
Historical accuracy is just as important.
In the case of Lewis -- the quintessential American hero, dead
at age 35 -- it is not a matter of being "obsessed with testing an
