MCCABE TO BE NAMED AS HEAD OF STATE POLICE

William McCabe, who retired three weeks ago as a State Police lieutenant colonel, will be named tomorrow by Gov. Dukakis to head the Massachusetts State Police as Public Safety commissioner, Beacon Hill sources said yesterday.

McCabe, who had to retire from the State Police at the mandatory age of 50, replaces Frank J. Trabucco, also a former trooper, who retired last month after six years as commissioner.
