Beyond the clean, well-lit confines of the TV screen the Olympics are a chaotic, democratic mess, where bomb-sniffing dogs, Andean musicians and muttering scalpers mix with giggling little girls splashing in the Olympic fountain and real residents keep going, amazingly, to work.

This is a city filled with many moments of authenticity and grace, colliding into spasms of disorder and greed.
