When Edward Messner was thrust into the limelight as the psychiatrist for a pedophile priest in the Catholic Church child abuse scandal, he took his high-profile role in stride.

"Dad's only complaint," said his son, William of Pittsburgh, "was that it took him away from his regular patients."
