When Edward Messner was thrust into the limelight as the
psychiatrist for a pedophile priest in the Catholic Church child
abuse scandal, he took his high-profile role in stride.
"Dad's only complaint," said his son, William of Pittsburgh, "was
that it took him away from his regular patients."
Dr. Messner's infamous patient was dismissed priest John J.
Geoghan, who confided to him that he had been molesting boys as far
