Activists in Upton are urging the state to buy nearly 100 acres of woodland in the heart of the Upton State Forest, saying they fear it otherwise could be sold and turned into a housing subdivision.

"There is the possibility of some houses put in there," said Jeff Ferber, a member of the Friends of Upton State Forest. "We don't want that. This land should be kept as open space."
