NEWTON - Last year around this time, Pope John was nursing a loss to Trinity Catholic after Anthony Nalen came on to boot a last- ditch field goal, but missed. Yesterday, Nalen kicked a 36-yard field goal and threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to push Pope John over Trinity Catholic, 10-6, at George Winkler Memorial Stadium.

Earning a playoff spot against St. Mary's for the Catholic Central Small title is more than the Tigers (8-1, 6-0 league) could have hoped for.
