DORCHESTER KNOWS THE WAY TO SAN JOSE
|
Sun pours into Parroquia San Jose, a Catholic church in this small
farming village in the lowlands of the Dominican Republic.
So does the rain.
The building's roof is so rusty and worn, San Jose often must
close, shutting out 300 villagers who pack the church for Sunday
Mass. Thin strips of tape hold together sheetrock walls behind the
main altar. The church's broken bell no longer calls villagers to
Mass. And the wooden doors on the outhouses don't quite shut.
