NO WHITEFIELD STATUE AT NEWBURYPORT PARK

A group calling themselves the George Whitefield Memorial
Committee is proposing to erect a statue in Newburyport's Atwood
Park.
While I understand that George Whitefield was an imposing figure
in his day, and perhaps deserves more memorializing than he has
received, I believe that Atwood Park is the wrong place to do it.
Atwood Park is a very small piece of green space in the midst of a
congested area of town. It is used by the local children for games,
and by the rest of us for a change from the ubiquitous brick and
asphalt.
