Critics of last week's appointment of Assistant Town Manager Mark
Sylvia to the town manager position say the Board of Selectmen's
decision violated the town charter because Sylvia does not have the
required experience.
The board's chairman, Selectman Kenneth Tavares, defended the
decision. He said the town's attorney ruled that selectmen had
"flexibility" in their interpretation of a charter provision that
