Catherine Lewis got the idea in a fabric store in Boston, where she noticed a poster asking people to donate quilts for babies infected with AIDS or the HIV virus.

Lewis liked the program's charitable concept, but she was disappointed that the blankets were heading out of state.

"I didn't like that they were sending them way up to New Hampshire, so I started looking around locally," said Lewis.

She found two health clinics that were excited to accept her gifts: the Whittier Street Health Center on Tremont Street in Roxbury and the Children's AIDS Program in Mattapan. A home economics teacher ...
