Sturdy farmhouses built a century or two ago accent rolling fields
outlined with stone walls along the road that leads to Wayside Farm.
Nestled in the foothills of New Hampshire's White Mountains in the
tiny town of North Sandwich, Wayside sits on 21,000 square feet of
land that includes three sparkling greenhouses. There, owners Lisa
and Ben Shambaugh produce 1,500 varieties of hardy, dependable garden
flowers and ornamental plants.
When the Shambaughs started the business in 1981, they sold only
vegetables for planting. Soon they began selling their stock at the
