Early in her research into the life of General George S. Patton Jr., Wenham Museum curator Tracey deJong determined that she needed to make up her own mind about the type of man he was.

"Many [biographers] seemed to write their opinion as fact, and some of it was conflicting," said deJong, who turned to Patton's journal and letters to get a better sense of the colorful, controversial figure who led the Third Army to victory in Europe during World War II.
