China, faced with a fight in the U.S. Congress over renewal of preferential trade status and with threats of sanctions over commerce and arms sale disputes, is responding with threats of its own.

Top Chinese leaders are warning the United States: Stop badgering us about alleged violations of human rights, intellectual property rights and nuclear proliferation accords, or China will retaliate by punishing American companies trying to do business here.
