WOODCHUCK CHRONICLES

When I noticed the pile of dirt and stones in front of the
toolshed this spring, I knew right away who the surprise house guest
was. My old friend, my old foe, Mr. Woodchuck, last glimpsed a decade
ago. It's possible it was Ms. Woodchuck, of course. I never got close
enough for a positive ID on the original, because it skedaddled
whenever it saw my shadow. But the sequel has the same habits,
the same appetite. He sleeps all winter beneath my outbuilding,
emerges yawning and sniffing somet...
