Most of us, if asked to name the Founding Fathers, would easily list a half-dozen or more names - Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison, and Monroe among them - and then stall. Few would remember Gouverneur Morris, which this book makes clear would be a mistake. For it was Morris who gave to us some of the most important words in American history - "We the People of the United States" - the opening to the Preamble to the United States Constitution.
