MFA'S JAPAN BRANCH STRUGGLES NAGOYA CENTER HAS NEARLY $35M DEFICIT

They celebrated with the ritualistic smashing of a sake barrel and
pledged to work together to bring the riches at the Museum of Fine
Arts to Japan. But four years after MFA leaders traveled to Nagoya to
celebrate the opening of a Far East branch, the satellite institution
is hemorrhaging money.
At stake: Most of a $50 million payment to be made by the Japanese
to the MFA over 20 years.
"Am I concerned about that museum?" said Katherine Getchell, the
MFA's deputy director. "Sure. Yeah. It's a major project for the
museum to try and improve their visitor numbers, and it is something
