Horatio Alger, the literary champion of American social mobility,
might have appreciated the corporate gumption of Verizon Wireless,
which has proposed a cellular phone tower for the suburban cemetery
that houses the prolific author's tombstone.
Natick's Open Space Committee, however, appears unmoved by the
poetic juxtaposition.
At its latest meeting, held on May 14, the committee voted, 4 to
0, to oppose the project, and members plan to protest the 115-foot
steel tower at an upcoming Planning Board hearing.
