JAMES HOBAN JR., PLANT ENGINEER, 71

BROCKTON - James E. Hoban Jr., 71, a longtime plant manager in Avon, died of leukemia on May 2 at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton.

Mr. Hoban was born in Weymouth, and attended Weymouth and Braintree public schools, and graduated from Weymouth Vocational Technical High School.

He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and became a corporal during the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1953.

After returning to Braintree, he opened an auto-repair shop, and then took a job as a fireman on the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.
