Roger Pierce got a glimpse of his fleet-footed future about 30
years ago when he worked as a starter at a Masters track and field
meet at Tufts University. Then in his late 20s, Pierce, a former
Northeastern University and Beverly High track star, had never heard
of Masters track and was amazed at how fast the old guys - mostly 40-
