Charlie Foley got his first Airedale terrier in 1961. That dog, Christopher, was a family pet for Foley and his wife, Regina, who had moved to Dedham two years earlier as newlyweds.

But, everything changed after Regina went to a dog show in Boston and decided that Christopher looked just as good as the competitors. Soon after, the Foleys brought their puppy to a match - an amateur dog show - in Providence.
