IMITATORS EYE DOWNTOWN NEWBURYPORT

NEWBURYPORT - Newburyport's downtown once again is dressed up in
its holiday best for the busiest shopping season of the year.
The restored 19th-century storefronts and garlands on light poles,
and the absence of overhead power lines give an old New England,
picture-postcard look. The spruce tree on the bottom of State Street
is decorated for the season, Santa's Workshop is open on the Inn
Street pedestrian mall, and shoppers are out in full force.
With the exception of a few weeks in mid-winter, there is little
