SHERBORN - A 14-year member of Sherborn's all-volunteer Fire Department has been named chief in a decision the selection committee termed "institutionally complicated."

Three of the four candidates are current members of the department, including one who had been acting chief since John Burke left in July to become the full-time fire chief in Lincoln. The fourth was David Dowd, a firefighter from Dover.
