When I married, my husband came with a sleep sofa, a tacky
dining room set, some great record albums, and - by far the most
valuable - a family molasses cookie recipe. These were the cookies he
remembered from his childhood: large, spicy, and beautiful. His
mother had taken a gingersnap recipe and her mother's molasses cookie
recipe and combined the two, producing what she calls "Peg's own
