Q. Why does the town of Westborough have an odd bow shape at its western end?

A. Boundary disputes have defined and redefined Westborough since even before its incorporation in 1717.

Westborough - so called because it was the western portion of Marlborough - was originally known as Chauncy Village, after the Rev. Charles Chauncy (1592-1672), the second president of Harvard College, according to Kristina Nilson Allen's book "On the Beaten Path: Westborough, Massachusetts" (1984).
