BOB DYLAN'S CHANGES

BOB DYLAN last stood on the stage of the Newport Folk Festival in
July 1965. He returns today to an event for which the title "folk
festival" no longer suffices. The frontiers between folk, rock,
blues, and country have blurred.
The shift in the musical landscape is in no small part Dylan's
doing. From early on he refused to inhabit a single musical genre. Al
Kooper, Dylan's Newport organist, explained, "Up to that point, rock
