ROCKPORT - Some of the great American painters of the 20th century
summered on Cape Ann. Adolph Gottlieb, Marsden Hartley, Milton Avery,
Mark Rothko, Stuart Davis, Joseph Solman, and Ben-Zion all came here
Detours in the 1930s and '40s, lured from New York by the quality
of the light.
This spring, a gallery has opened on Main Street in Rockport that
specializes in the work those artists made here - all but Davis,
whose paintings are scarce.
