SALEM STATE ESCAPES BUDGET AX

SALEM - Salem State College has escaped the state's budget ax -
for now.
The state House of Representatives last week restored $2.6 million
in proposed cuts for Salem State, the largest college on the North
Shore. The money was part of an extra $69 million for higher
education added to the state budget for the next fiscal year, which
begins July 1.
"It was something we felt was necessary to preserve education in
