HE'S MOUNTING NEW CHALLENGE MCGAUGHEY PINS HOPES ON SAARLAND

Shug McGaughey, one of the sharpest trainers in the country, is
noted for his work with young fillies, but he hasn't had much luck
with 3-year-old colts since Easy Goer battled Sunday Silence in the
1989 Triple Crown, winning the Belmont Stakes after finishing second
to his chief rival in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. McGaughey
came close in 1999 when Coronado's Quest was one of the top juveniles
in the country, but the colt didn't make the Triple Crown.
Now McGaughey is back with Saarland, a son of Unbridled and a
