1938 was a busy year for Sergei Prokofiev. The Russian composer
toured America for the last time, met Marlene Dietrich and Arnold
Schoenberg, saw Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,"
conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and, when he got home to
Moscow, composed one of his most popular works, the score to Sergei
Eisenstein's film "Alexander Nevsky."
Thursday evening, the BSO celebrates the centennial of Prokofiev's
birth and the opening of its 111th season with a special program
featuring a screening of "Alexander Nevsky" with live accompaniment
by the orchestra conducted by ...
