Russell Carpenter, 89 Was zoology professor at Tufts

Russell L. Carpenter, professor emeritus of zoology at Tufts University, died Sunday at Sweetbrook Nursing Home, Williamstown. He was 89 and lived in Williamstown.

Mr. Carpenter taught at Tufts for 31 years until his retirement in 1969. He was also curator of the university's collection of letters and memorabilia of P.T. Barnum, the circus impresario and one-time Tufts trustee.

He lectured on ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and at a Colby College summer program. Recently...
