Their heyday past, rental communities persist

There are more cars and fewer bicycles. But Rita Quimby, 69, says
the summer atmosphere of the South Shore's old cottage communities
has not changed much in almost 50 years.
"Those were wonderful summers. The children were young then, and
we'd rent a cottage for the whole summer," said Quimby, of Weymouth,
who four years ago returned to the Brant Rock section of Marshfield
to rent a cottage with her sister, Connie Dinneen.
"We're both widows now, and we decided to start going back to the
same area for our vacation because we have such fond memories. Many
