Intriguing films worth tracking down

"Object of Beauty," the new John Malkovich-Andie MacDowell comedy
opening today (see review, Page 42), is set in motion when a valuable
small sculpture goes missing, sending the two scurrying after it.
Alfred Hitchcock had a name for any pursued object that sets a film
in motion. He called it a McGuffin -- and, indeed, used them more
than once. Here's a handful of great McGuffin films:
"The Maltese Falcon" (1941) -- John Huston's directing debut is
the granddaddy of McGuffin films. Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor,
