BU celebrates Kipnis centennial
|
February 1 marked the 100th birthday of the late, great Russian
basso Alexander Kipnis. Kipnis memorabilia are part of the special
collections at Boston University, and today an exhibit devoted to
Kipnis' career opens in the Mugar Memorial Library. The 11-case
exhibit includes photos, posters, programs and an oil painting of the
bass as Arkel in "Pelleas et Melisande." This afternoon at 5:30 the
exhibit officially opens with remarks by Kipnis' son, the
harpischordist Igor Kipnis; soprano Phyllis Curtin, dean of the
School for the Arts at BU; radio personality Ron Della Chiesa; and
