Nigeria's new president, Umaru Yar'Adua, pledged in his inaugural
address Tuesday to work urgently to quell rising violence in the
volatile Niger Delta, a major source of oil exports to the United
States.
Speaking in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, Yar'Adua also acknowledged
serious problems in last month's elections, which gave his ruling
party massive landslides at the national, state and local levels
