Grand duke enjoyed Topeka visit

There are plenty of people still around Topeka who fondly remember
the Treasures of the Czars exhibit that was displayed here.
But there is no one left who remembers entertaining one of the
members of the Russian royal family when he came to Topeka.
That is because it happened way back in 1872, and it was probably
a tired, but happy and pleased, Grand Duke Alexis who arrived by
train at 10 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 22 after crossing the state
from Denver.
He had been buffalo hunting, you see, all over the Great Plains.
And with some pretty famous names.
