Roy Rogers and some other country singers used to sing a song called "Don't Fence Me In." Its first line was: "Oh give me land, lots of land under starry skies above --- don't fence me in." Those of us older than 50 probably have hummed that tune and sung at least some of the words. And, while it was just a popular tune, its words are still dear to our hearts.
