Mural tells parish's history

If one picture is truly worth a thousand words, then the images in Andy Valdivia's massive mural in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church's new activity center convey an encyclopedia's worth of parish history.

Valdivia spent 494 hours over 86 days painting the mural in the main stairway between the two floors of the new Marlo Cuevas- Balandran Activity Center.

The 57-year-old Valdivia, a native Topekan, a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and a graduate of its elementary school, titled the work "Mi Parroquia." That is Spanish for "My Parish."
