City dilutes, OKs picketing measure

The Topeka City Council passed a resolution critical of funeral picketing on Tuesday evening after watering down the measure to the point that its sponsor, Mayor Bill Bunten, no longer supported it.

Bunten contended the council unnecessarily diminished his proposal to condemn Westboro Baptist Church's funeral picketing by removing all references to the church.

"I think this takes all of the bite out of it," he said.
