100 YEARS IN KANSAS
The face of 4-H has changed over the past century as projects have
been added to interest urban youths
Most 4-H'ers in county are city kids
William Biles has been a devoted 4-H member for 10 years.
But the 17-year-old Topeka High School student doesn't live on a
farm or own livestock. His specialty is aerospace, and he is a member
of an all-urban 4-H club.
"I got into making rockets because I'm a guy," said Biles, an
assistant superintendent for aerospace at the Shawnee County Fair. "I
wasn't into cooking or sewing or arts and crafts."
