Kathy Yocom appeared to be a baby bird's only chance for survival.
It was July 18 when the Topeka woman heard the bird chirping from
atop the ceiling above the room where she works at Beneficial Finance
Co., 2160 S.W. Wanamaker Road. The bird, which apparently fell from a
nest higher above, continued chirping for hours.
Yocom didn't like the bird's chances for survival if left in the
heat. So she rescued it --- and now she is glad...
