Sir John Eccles, 94, Dies; Nobel-Winning Scientist

Sir John Carew Eccles, 94, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist
who was one of this century's pioneers in discovering and exploring
how messages are transmitted in the brain and nervous system, died
May 2 in Switzerland.
Sir John, an Australian-born former college pole-vaulter,
pursued scientific study and research in Australia, Britain, New
Zealand and for some years at the State University of New York at
Buffalo, before moving to Switzerland.
He died in the small Swiss village of Tenero-Contra. No cause
of death was given.
