The death of two members of the Quorum of the Twelve of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints within the past 10 days is not
only unprecedented in recent church history but creates vacancies in
the group that are to be filled by President Gordon B. Hinckley.
As the church's senior apostle, President Hinckley is the man
designated to issue a calling that church members believe is inspired
by God to men who will fill the vacancies in the quorum. "Apostles
