Ellison wins medalist honors

JEREMY RANCH -- Any other year, Jake Ellison would be getting all kinds of accolades for winning medalist honors at the Men's State Amateur golf tournament.

But this isn't your normal year at the State Am.

Annie Thurman, the first women ever to play in the tournament, has been the center of attention at The Jeremy Golf & Country Club all week, and she'll continue to be in the spotlight for at least another day.

Thurman qualified for one of the 32 match play spots after firing a 72 Thursday for a two-day total of 146. She'll face Matt Stalsberg, a 23-year-old former Utah State golfer who lives ...
