Ailing Comsat to Sell Unit Making Satellite Dishes; Decision Is Part of Reorganization Effort

Comsat Corp. plans to announce a major restructuring today that includes selling its satellite-dish manufacturing business in Sterling, the latest in a series of streamlining efforts that the troubled Bethesda company has undertaken.

Comsat's president and chief executive, Betty Alewine, said yesterday that the company would put its RSI Inc. division up for sale because it is considered extraneous to Comsat's core mission of providing satellite services to businesses and governments worldwide.
