Jonah has the feel of real life

On New Year's Day I bought my grandson, Parker, an animated cartoon about the life of Jonah.

What I didn't tell him, however, was I really bought it for me.

The silly mistakes of the prophet Jonah always make me laugh -- at myself.

Jonah was fearful, yet arrogant. He was both righteous and self- righteous. He had more faults than the folks he tried to improve.

In short, the book of Jonah is like reading my own mail.
