SAN LEANDRO -- Mt. Eden High boys tennis coach J. Fitzgerald Royal could see it in his players' eyes. The Monarchs, who stood to clinch an outright league title on the final day of the regular season Thursday with a win against San Leandro, weren't focused on the task.

And they paid dearly for it. San Leandro stunned Mt. Eden 4-3, leaving the Monarchs and Castro Valley tied for first place with 13- 2 records in the Hayward Area Athletic League.
