Bright Eyes can't quite live up to the hype

CONOR OBERST came across as the most overrated artist in all of music on Tuesday night at the Berkeley Community Theatre.

That's not his fault. Oberst, the creative force behind Bright Eyes, is not responsible for the overrating, which has unfairly put him on the level of a superhuman combination of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen,

Michael Stipe and Gram Parsons. He's never asked for such lofty titles as the "King of Indie Rock" and "the best young songwriter in America," both of which were bestowed on him recently by Rolling Stone magazine.

In all fairness, the Bright Eyes show was enjoyable ...
