Tribe welcomes home relics kept in museum Yurok Tribe artifacts held in New York for 99 years
|
KLAMATH -- With tears of sadness and smiles of joy, the Yurok
Tribe on Friday welcomed home artifacts kept for nearly a century on
the other side of the country in the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
"God, Creator, Lord, we thank you for guiding what came home,"
said tribal member Kathleen Vigil, her eyes closed and her voice
lifted in prayer. "We praise you, too, for crying all the tears so
that they can be put to rest and be happy, Lord."
The artifacts were bought from tribal members...
